I’m still on my BBQ kick from a few weeks ago thanks to Traeger.  I had a family function where we smoked some amazing ribs (Read about it here), and now having anything but a wood fired and smoked BBQ somehow just doesn’t make the cut.  Thanks to Tim Anderson we have a quick breakdown of what their product line has to offer.

You think you know real BBQ and you are still using commercial charcoal or even gas? Think again….. How many BBQ competitions are won around North America using those fuels? Exactly none. Real BBQ is made over real wood smoke and using different flavours of real hardwood to influence the taste of foods is one of the truest of cooking art forms.

30 Years ago a company called Traeger out of Portland, Oregon invented the wood fired grill and it’s stronger than ever today. Traeger Canada is based in Barrie, Ontario and has been servicing the Canadian market with all manner of Traeger products for over 12 years. As the number one wood fired grill made in the world, Traeger also manufactures all its own 100% pure hardwood pellets in 4 of its own mills scattered throughout North America. Wood varieties such as Apple, Mesquite, Hickory, Cherry, Pecan, Alder, Oak and Maple fuel the real wood fire at the heart of every Traeger Wood fired grill.

The beauty of a Traeger is its true versatility and ease of use. Self-lighting with precise digital control, set the grill on smoke and it will maintain 170-180 deg all day and smoke all your favorite foods to perfection.

Due to the drip tray between your food and the fire, no worries about dripping fat causing flare-ups so no babysitting a Traeger. If you want to grill your steak, with a turn of the knob the grill will add a steady supply of more wood to the fire and grill it to perfection. Due to the natural moisture in Traeger’s hardwood, the grill will do anything from bake bread or a pie to cook the most delicate fish, all with that signature hint of wood smoke.

Price wise, these machines are not inexpensive but are built to last. Running from a portable model at about $500 CAD all the way up to large size commercial Traegers that will hold 96 racks of ribs for around $15,000.00 – The Pro 22 which is the best-selling residential model is a cool $1100.00.

This year Traeger actually launched a fully digital Wi-Fi enabled premium grill called the Timberline that you can download recipes and control your cook from anywhere on the planet through your smartphone using the Traeger App!
